Creative Process

Donald Trump is often mocked as “TACO” (Trump Always Chickens Out) because he has a habit of backing out or postponing things at the very last minute.

In Japan, though, “taco” means octopus. So at first, I imagined putting an octopus on his head and having it squirt ink. But then it hit me—English speakers only think of the Mexican food, so the joke wouldn’t land at all.

But hey, I’m not the kind of person who gives up that easily. If I was going to do this, I figured I might as well showcase octopus as a Japanese delicacy. When people think of famous Japanese food, it’s usually sushi or tempura. So yeah… I went with sushi.

I dressed him up like a sushi chef with a traditional hat and white coat, slapped a big “Sushi” sign behind him, and to make sure everyone instantly knew what he was serving, I placed a single octopus leg right on top—suction cups proudly on display.

“How about that? My TACO game is pretty strong, huh.” He looked as smug as if he’d just closed the biggest deal in history.
